Notes

Elmer, born in Belmont, Wisconsin (from documents from his brother, George Lincoln, and Allan Lincoln, a nephew of Elmer, and from his obituary), moved to Scotia, Nebraska in 1878.  His brothers, Albert, George and Robert, also moved to Scotia around that time.  Scotia is in a valley located near a branch of the Loup River, and it appears the brothers were able to take up a homestead there to farm.  From court records of Scotia, Nebraska, Elmer married Fanny Nugent on his birthday, on 24-May-1888 in Scotia.  The family moved back to Wisconsin in 1900 to a town near where Elmer was born.  In 1910, they moved back to Scotia, Nebraska, and that is where both Elmer and his wife, Fannie, are buried.  Elmer did several jobs during his life.  The census forms show him to be a farmer, bartender, and doing odd jobs.  He died at age 64.  Both Elmer and Fannie are buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia, Nebraska.

Elmer's wife, Fannie, was born in Vermont/Canada in May, 1860 (according to the census forms).  Her maiden name (Herbert) comes from a California Death Index of one of her sons, Rollen, as well as a marriage certificate of her first marriage from Scotia, Nebraska.  She married a Joseph Frances Nugent on 22-Nov-1880, before she married Elmer, and the US Census forms show she had two children from that prior marriage.  At the Mount Hope cemetery in Scotia, Nebraska, where Fannie and Elmer are buried, there is a headstone next to them with the name of "Mary N." with dates 1885 - 1890, presumably a Mary Nugent from the first marriage.  The fate of the other child and of her first husband is unknown.  Fannie was the daughter of John and Mary Herbert.  Fannie died in 1935 (inscription on tombstone) around the age of 75.
